For those children wishing to continue their athletics at a senior level, we recommend the Keilor St Bernard’s Athletics Club. Keilor St Bernard’s is associated with Athletics Victoria, and participates in track-and-field competition from mid October until late February, and then in cross-country from May until September.
Competition starts at Under 14 (a child’s age group is determined by their age as at 31 December). Keilor St Bernard’s will allow some younger children to compete in their Under 14 age group. Competition generally is on Saturday afternoons from 1.00pm, From time-to-time twilight meetings are held on Tuesday nights from 7.00pm-10.00pm. The track-and-field competition is at the Aberfeldie Track (Melways ref. 28 D6) which is an all weather track.
Children from younger age groups are welcome to participate in the Under 14s for Keilor St Bernard’s, to obtain experience and to compete against other Clubs.
Keilor St Bernard’s has a strong emphasis on coaching, and hold training sessions each Monday and Thursday nights from 5.30pm – 7.00pm, and on Sundays from 9.00am – 10.30am, at St Bernard’s College. This training is held throughout the year.
Many events are offered for Under 14 and Under 16 children. There is no compulsion on children to enter all events – you can focus on only one or two events if you wish.
Registered Keilor Little Athletes can for a very small additional fee become dually registered with Keilor Little Athletics and Keilor St Bernard’s, to allow them to compete both at Little Athletics and in Under 14 or Under 16 competitions for Keilor St Bernard’s.
Athletes only need to obtain and complete a registration form from Keilor St Bernard's, and then ask for a letter from Keilor LAC confirming their Little Aths membership.
Participation in Under 14 or Under 16 level for Keilor St Bernard’s is a great way for the older children at KLAC to experience more senior competition, to obtain additional training, and (if they have sufficient interest) to remain with the club as they grow older, and so ultimately to compete at the State League – the highest level of athletics competition in Victoria.
