Track "Unofficial" Opening (4 Feb 2012)
Whilst is wasn't the official opening, as you can see our members made the most of an opportunity to walk the new track prior to the start of last Saturday's competition. The "official" opening is still to be determined with the Brimbank Council but we look forward to that day as an opportunity to showcase our great club to various VIPs and invite along many past senior and junior life members who would be thrilled to see that we finally achieved the dream.

Message
from Nathan (opposite)To our President Sam Barbuto, Craig Hill (VP) and the current and past centre executive, On behalf of the athletes and their families we thank you for the many years of effort to get our new track. My dad tells me that the new track was proposed almost 25 years ago when our club was moved from the Keilor sports ground - and it wasn't until the early 2000s that the then president Tim Golder (see above in the daggy bucket hat) again kicked off a bid for a new track. Then in 2004, President Warren Hosking and Tim Golder joined forces to lobby the State Government and Brimbank Council for a new track - along the way we got our new clubrooms but still had to wait until 2010 when our current president Sam Barbuto finally got everyone to agree to build a new track. My dad said Sam knows how to "close a deal" and Sam and his VP Craig Hill worked very hard over the last two seasons to ensure that not only did we get a fantastic track but were able to continue our competition at other venues whilst the track was being built. Sam, as shown in the picture above, has every reason to be proud of what he and his team have been able to achieve and as for now - now that the hard work has be done - I'm sure my mate Thomas Barbuto (BU9) will be glad to get his dad back! I would also like to thank Trent Prince and the people from the Brimbank City Council for building us a new track so that not only can we use the track each week but now my school mates will also be able to use the track for school sports days. Hopefully now they'll understand why I love athletics so much.
